The internet has become a major part of life for many over recent years and that means that making sure that you have a strong and stable connection is almost as important as the device on which you intend to access it with.

With routers being the device that connects you to the online world, it is important to ensure that your router is suitable for the task at hand, so in order to help you, we have created a list of the best tri-band Wi-Fi routers that 2017 has to offer.

We took a list of the most popular tri-band routers and put them to the test, putting them through their paces as we push them to their limits through file transfers, gaming and much more, giving us a fantastic insight into their performance.

Netgear Nighthawk X6 AC3200 – Overall Winner of Best Tri-Band Wi-Fi Router 2017

Netgear Nighthawk x6 routerIt will come as no surprise that one of the most respected brands in the market has sealed our number one spot, pushing router technology to new limits that have left smaller brands light years behind as they continue to innovate.

The Netgear Nighthawk X6 AC3200 brings modern technology and design together as it proudly flaunts its sharp corners and all black finish boasting six antennas, creating one of the best Wi-Fi connections that we have found from any router we have tested to date.

Performance is key when it comes to strong and stable internet connections and Netgear’s technology has ensured that the Nighthawk X6 is capable of delivering on their promise to provide a wireless network that you can push to the limits.

It certainly stood firm as we began our file transfers while again showing very little sign of struggling to handle the pressure as we gave it the online gaming treatment across both console and PC based games that hold huge multiplayer lobbies.

As you would expect from one of the higher specification routers within the Netgear collection, it comes with a number of advanced features, including but not limited to, integrated USB 3.0 port, PC and 1GHz dual-core processor to bind it all together seamlessly.

Ready to provide you with 3.2Gbps speeds with three different Wi-Fi networks (2.4 GHz and two 5GHz bands), the Nighthawk X6 from Netgear is ready to spearhead your desire to the best Wi-Fi connection you’ll find on the market right now, albeit with a price tag to fit.

TP-Link Archer C3200 (AC3200) – Best for Gaming & Online Streaming

tp-link archer ac3200 routerJumping from one router that came as no surprise as the overall winner of the category to one from a brand that has become known for a history of products that traditionally have failed to live up to the high standards that we hoped for, however, the TP-Link Archer C3200 is different this time around.

Yet another tri-band Wi-Fi router that has taken a futuristic appearance but looks great for it, with a solid black outer complete with six antennas creating a stable and strong connection to the three networks the router generates to get you online.

We pushed the Archer C3200 through our rigorous testing, trying to really stress test the strength of the network that the router gave, including some of the most demanding gaming titles and large-scale file transfer but we simply couldn’t fault the performance.

Lag-free, stable and more than capable of handling what you had to throw at it, completely overturning our perception of the TP-Link brand and their products and the level of performance definitely reveals that they have stepped up their own technology to put their tri-band router in the running here.
